LGBTQ+ VR Museum
Site unspecific? Selfsite? Whatever you might call it, the LGBTQ+ VR Museum is dedicated to using VR to platform the narratives, artworks, and artifacts of the LGBTQ+ community. Created by DiVRse Technologies (Antonia Forster and Thomas Terkildsen), the museum appears as a familiar institutional structure but has numerous multimedia elements that draw out poignant stories from a pair of 3D scanned shoes or a worn book. Here, the voices and images that are often excluded from commercial VR infrastructure are given as much attention as a modernist sculpture. While its low-footprint portable version is perhaps the most radical (capable of unfolding an empty space into a place of preservation, connection, and education,) the expanded field of the museum includes experimental biometric sensors and various physical exhibition components. [The VR portion of the museum also has a number of accessibility features; which are sorely missing in most VR experiences.]
