Unmanned
Unmanned is a darkly ironic but nuanced exploration of the daily life of one of the newest types of soldiers: the drone pilot. Taking the form of a series of mini-games, you do everything from helping the protagonist groom themselves to meet regulations in the morning, drive to work at weird hours for missions, call you wife, perform your job participating in a war happening continents away, and even playing military-themed shooter videogames after work with your child. The screen is often split, featuring text jarringly contrasted to depictions of the virtual soldier’s alternating banal and tragic day-to-day routine. Unmanned is a critical look at the disembodied state of war and relationships in the digital age (and how war technology elides into a next-door neighbor to video game technologies.)
