Glitchhikers

Lazily drifting between lanes, the late-night radio announcer babbles about stars. Sleepy; blinking as the dim landscape slides past in the cold light. Glitchikers is a videogame that puts you in limited control of a car during a long sequence of lonely night driving on a highway. Where are you going? Why are you forcing yourself to stay awake into the wee, silent, hours? Far in the distance taillights slide around a corner. Your trip punctuated by occasional signs indicating distances to surreal sounding places, such as “Cosmic Latte” and “Intersection.” Every so often, in your sleep-deprived state, a growing series of glitches and fragments occlude your vision alerting you that you’ve picked up a hitchhiker. These dreamlike beings probe your intentions with philosophical questions. All the while your keep driving down the darkened road, always within the limited parameters set by the game: changing lanes; speeding up a bit; slowing down a little bit; and looking left or right, the moon hanging to former, the later, the passenger seat, almost always empty, static trickling from the radio.
