Lieve Oma
Lieve Oma is a short game the delves into childhood memories of hunting for mushrooms in the Dutch woods with an aging grandmother. Simple but elegantly styled in a Bonnard-meets-graphic-novel way, the aesthetics evoke both nostalgia but also a sense of intimacy in the landscape and its hidden morsels. Starting as a young child, your frantic scampering through the expanse is always anchored to the plodding pace of your grandmother and the pathway. Sometimes you find mushrooms, sometimes you don’t. Retreading the same path a number of ages, the game expands its scope in concentric circles. Exploring themes of intergenerational difference, aging, family strife, and our long-term relationship with landscape, Lieve Oma asks the player to slow down and focus on the small emphatic moments that barely register amongst the noise and ferocity of the modern world.
